Endo GIA Roticulator™ Sulu
| Features | Benefits |
|---|
| The Endo GIA Roticulator™ sulu sizes available include 30, 45, and 60mm linear lengths in staple sizes of 2.0, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.8 | Offers versatility various tissue thicknesses. |
| The Endo GIA Roticulator™ sulu articulates at staple cartridge and locks securely in place at 22 and 45 degrees. | Maximum access due to articulation point at staple cartridge. In comparison to the competition, our articulation point is at the "wrist"; not at the "elbow". |
| Wide jaw opening. | Allows for easy placement on tissue. |
| 6 rows of 4.8mm staples | Hemostasis and staple line security in thick stomach tissue and tissue encountered during colorectal surgery. |
| New knife blade with each reload. | Clean cut when forming gastric pouch. Clean cut and reduced potential for cross-contamination. |
| Universal handle for all loading units. | Improved OR efficiency and reduction in inventory codes. |
| Tissue Gap Control. | Precise staple formation along the entire staple line. |
| Point of articulation. | Improved access when forming the gastric pouch and within the chest cavity. Especially in the lower pelvis. |
Frequently Asked Questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|
| Does the knife blade get reused with each firing? | Absolutely not! Every cartridge comes with a new sterile knife blade. Using a new knife for each firing ensures that it will never dull through repeated use and reduces the risk of cross contamination that exists when reusing the same knife blade. |
| Does the knife cut beyond the last row of staples? | Absolutely not. The staple line continues well beyond the cut line. The knife slot on the cartridge does extend beyond the staples to house the tissue gap control mechanism. |
| Which cartridges can be used with the Endo GIA™ Universal? | All Straight and Endo GIA™ Roticulator™ cartridges can be used with all Universal instruments (GIA™ Universal, Endo GIA™ Universal and Endo GIA Universal XL). |
| What is the shaft diameter of the Endo GIA™ Universal? | The shaft diameter of the Endo GIA™ Universal is 12mm. All cartridges, with the exception of the 4.8 reloads, are 12mm. The 4.8's cartridges (green) are 15mm to accommodate the physical height of the 4.8 staple. A 10-15mm Versaport™ Plus trocar is available to accommodate the 4.8 cartridges, reorder code 179078. |
| Do you make a GREEN Endo GIA™ Roticulator™cartridge? | We expect to release our new 4.8 (green) Endo GIA™ Roticulator™ cartridge in 45mm and 60mm linear lengths shortly. |
| How many times can the Endo GIA™ Universal instrument be reloaded? | All three Universal instruments (GIA™ Universal, Endo GIA™ Universal and Endo GIA Universal XL) can be loaded and fired 25 times. |
| Why do I have to squeeze the handle multiple times? | The Endo GIA™ Universal Stapling System compresses tissue as it is fired. The tissue gap control mechanism consistently and predictably compresses tissue while it simultaneously lays down a staple line and transects the tissue. To accomplish this sequential tissue compression, the instrument is fired in 15mm increments with each full squeeze of the handle. This action moves the tissue gap control mechanism 15mm with each squeeze, to physically pull the anvil and staple cartridge together to sequentially compress the tissue as it fires. This provides consistent staple formation even at the distal end of the cartridge. |
| Why do I need 6 rows of staples-open staplers only have 4 and I have no problems? | The staple wire gauge used in "open staplers" is heavier and does not require the additional row of staples. Endoscopic staplers use thinner wire gauge and the additional row of staples ensures superior staple line security and hemostasis. |
| How do I know which staple size to use? | Per the Instructions For Use (IFU) booklet, the 2.0mm cartridge (gray) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to .75mm - 1.0mm. The 2.5mm cartridge (white) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 1.0mm -1.5mm. The 3.5mm cartridge (blue) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 1.5mm - 2.0mm. The 4.8mm cartridge (green) should be used on tissue that can comfortably compress to 2.0mm. |
| How do you fire the instrument? | **Please refer to the Instructions for Use (IFU) booklet for complete instructions. Once inside the cavity, open the jaws. Squeeze the handle once to close the jaws on the tissue. Press the green safety button. To fire the instrument, squeeze the handle. Continue to squeeze the handle until the cartridge has been fully fired. Pull back on the black retraction knobs to open the jaws. |
| How do you open the jaws of the stapler? | To open the jaws of the instrument, pull back on the black retraction knobs. |
| Why don't the jaws close tight on tissue? | By design, all Universal instruments (GIA™ Universal, Endo GIA™ Universal and Endo GIA Universal XL) offer an atraumatic jaw closure. This allows surgeons the flexibility to reposition the instrument after closing the jaws but before firing. Specifically, the jaws of the instrument can be repositioned on tissue prior to firing while minimizing bruising. Although the jaws may not appear tight upon closure, the tissue gap control mechanism physically pulls the cartridge and anvil together compressing tissue during firing. |
| Why does the handle sometimes snap when I try to fire across thick tissue? | The handle does have the potential to “snap” if it is fired into tissue that is outside the indicated range. Should the handle snap, remove the instrument and cartridge and consider the following options: 1) Change to a new larger size stapler and cartridge 2) Perform more dissection 3) Choose a different angle of approach with a new larger staple 4) Choose a different means of transection/closure. |
